November 2015, The News from Vicky

The “Power of Possibility” luncheon was a very inspiring event once again. Many of you attended the film screening of “Where Hope Grows” the evening prior to the luncheon, and heard first hand from the co-star David DeSanctis about his personal journey of living with Down syndrome. Ideas are a dime a dozen. People who implement them are priceless – Mary Kay Ash Our process for gathering ideas has been inclusive and ideas for both the 2016 Event and for the future of our Resale Shop have been varied. The final decision for both are still pending, as we coordinate with the agency. However, our time for implementation is nearing, so we are looking for those who would like to take leadership roles. Call me with your interest. The Resale Shop Moving Sale was Saturday, the 19th. We had a steady flow of shoppers, but there are still lovely items in the shop for 50% off (except jewelry). Invite your friends and family to shop until October 15th. Thank you, Marie and Louise, for your last Saturday Sale and for the years of managing the shop. The Power of Possibilities Luncheon will be October 16 at 11:00 at the Hotel Sofitel. You have received your invitation and we look forward to having more tables filled with Auxiliary members this year. The Bridge Tournament/Game Day has again sold out. Thank you to Kate, Jeanne, and Sheila for your hard work to prepare for this upcoming event. The auction items are varied and impressive, and everyone will have fun with bridge, lunch, games and shopping and helping. Save the Date for the two upcoming events: Holiday Participant Party on December 1 and the Member Party on January 23, 2016. Thank you to Dawn Parker, Roxie Folsom, Marie Pease, Vivian Salama, Kathy Cook, and Candy Nagare for volunteering to be on the Nominating Committee to select a slate of officers... read more

The role of media in promoting inclusive atmospheres is taking center stage these days as we continue to see positive results by actors and actresses sharing their personal stories about a family member with special needs. With their message, hope and opportunity continue to grow and bring our goal of “Accept. Respect. Include.” closer to reality for the individuals and families we serve.

Learning Links Book Drive 2015

We are continuing to collect books for Learning Links which will be presented to the teachers in October. I am very thankful to those who have already donated, but would like to be able to fill up the black Halloween bucket with more used books, that you may have in your home library, or a new book. I know that the teachers will be most appreciative and I also know, from first hand experience, how much the kiddos enjoy reading activities. – Sandra... read more
